After hours and hours spent on museum island we needed a bite to refresh and renew ourselves. It was raining, (Berlin in July! got to love it) and this place is right across from Pergamon so it won. The idea of having late afternoon dim sum sounded good. However, as I've come to learn dim sum in Germany does not mean the same thing as in Hong Kong or the states. Basically, they had 4 or 5 different dumplings you can order, but not traditional dim sum with a variety of small bites. That is fine, just something to know up front if you are expecting little carts rolling around with lovely treats on them or a menu of small bites and some tea. We ened up getting a "mixed sampler" of dumplings plus a sea food lemon grass soup. The sampler of dumplings had 2 dumplings of four different types. To be honest, only the veggie one was memorable. The rest were fine, but nothing special, but again I have high standards when it comes to dumplings and such, but lets say I wasn't impressed. The soup however was very good. It was spicy, the seafood was excellent, and it was almost like a laksa. I would vote this soup as a good hangover cure or jet lag cure. A bowl of spicy good things. IT was actually perfect for a raining afternoon. This soup is what is getting them closer to four stars in my book. So I would give this place another try and try out a few other things but I was not impressed with how the duck looked. But service was very good, and on a rainy afternoon a good place to get some spicy soup.

I am more skeptical than the next guy when it comes to highly rated burger/'American' food joints outside the US (universal truth, for all countries/cultures and not just for food). But walking by Bacoa and already in a coma (the best kind, if you must ask), what could it hurt? Oh my god. If I ignore that the patty was a little weak (too far on the soft and flavorless side), Bacoa serves a legit burger. Fries were pretty good too. Worth trying. Enough said.

This is the brunch place I have been looooooooong searching for. After coming back from Australia where they had very tasty breakfasts, I was craving something similar. And this place hit the spot. We had the veggie breakfast, huevos rancheros and eggs benedict, as well as various coffees, teas, milkshakes and juices. All were amazing. The service is attentive, the atmosphere is good (especially the outside area at the back, so nice) and the food was really, really good. FYI: they are very busy on weekends; arriving just after 1pm we had to wait 30 minutes for a table.... parties of 2 were getting in faster though (we were 3).

Delicious food and very nice staff. My wife and I went there after checking its Yelp rating; all tables were taken so we ended up eating at the bar. My wife ordered curry lamb with rice and I FIRST drank a 0.5L of beer and ordered the traditional breaded pork steak. All three items were brought from heaven.

Loved the hot water so you could help yourself to green tea. I tried most of the nigiri and roll recommendation and had some sake and it cost me all of $30!

I've been coming to Mildred's for years, although I'm not a fully fledged veggie, I do enjoy dining out at vegetarian restaurants (I just can't give up drunken late night burgers and bacon hangover sandwiches). Mildred's is always packed, it's small and has a buzzy Soho vibe - you can't make reservations, so if I'm coming for dinner at the weekend, I'll get here early. They also have a couple of tables outside, which is nice for lunch in the summer - a great spot for people watching. They have daily specials, and the menu always has the option of salads, a curry dish, pasta dish, burrito, tagine, and my fave, a veggie burger (they have different types that change daily), always to be accompanied by a side of sweet potato fries - stodgy and delicious. If you're looking for a place to have a birthday dinner, ask about the private dining room that they have upstairs - I've used it before for a birthday, it's free to hire and you can bring an ipod and play your own music. I've dined at Mildred's with many non vegetarians, and everyone always agrees that the food is great and good value for money.

I've been wanting to write this review for sometime though I've never really been able to put my experience into proper words. Buca is basically a really good looking hang out and if you're looking to grab a drink, maybe some apps and you're a local to the area this is probably going to be your go-to hangout spot. Some positives first, the restaurant is small but pretty nice, all tables require stools so if you have someone in your party that's in a wheelchair they will feel left out. The cooks are working really hard to belt out the food as quickly as possible while trying to retain the high standards in quality and presentation. Now the negatives... Servers here are the worst I've ever seen and I've been a server for 4 years. They are fairly friendly but I've never experienced serving staff that don't know how to serve. Servers here don't know how to multi task and it took 3 servers in 3 separate passes to clean one table. I counted the number of servers and how many tables the establishment had and each server only had 3 - 4 tables (4 servers in total) which is far less than most establishments yet they couldn't remember drink orders, meal orders and were certainly not under any kind of pressure to expedite food in a timely manner. One table stayed empty and a mess for 20 minutes before it was finally cleaned and re-sat. I watched one server take the bill from the table while another cleaned off all the glasses and dishes, a few minutes later a different server slowly wiped down the table and 10 minutes after that another server put fresh cutlery and napkins. We watched as people came in and saw the line and left. If I was the owner I'd want tables turned over as soon as possible, more tables turned over the more money in the owners pocket and more tips for the servers but this concept didn't really resonate with the serving staff because in my opinion they don't really care... The food itself was underwhelming despite the nice presentation, the drinks were good but took too long to expedite. A simple espresso with liqueur took them nearly 40 minutes to make. The only person keeping this mess together was the manager who was working hard hosting tables, helping expedite and running part of the bar. But he's only one man and can only do so much. Tip for the restaurant owner, hire experienced servers and cut the dead weight because you could be making much more money. I personally will never good back, but as long as Buca is good to it's local patrons it should be around for a long time.
